(NMC) — Northern Marianas College and the CNMI Small Business Development Center at NMC recently launched the CNMI Innovation Incubator Program.
Funded by a grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the initiative aims to foster innovation and support small business growth across the CNMI by providing essential resources to early-stage startups and small businesses.
The primary objective of the program is to stimulate innovation through entrepreneurship and aims to increase the number of small businesses and jobs. Key features of the program include expert mentorship and guidance, essential resources and amenities, a robust support network and community relationships, valuable funding opportunities, and a focus on sustainable success.
“This is an important milestone in NMC and the CNMI SBDC’s ongoing efforts to empower small businesses, foster entrepreneurship, and drive innovation across our economy,” NMC President Galvin Deleon Guerrero, EdD, said. “Small businesses truly are the lifeblood of any economy, contributing to both job creation for our residents and the diversity of our island community. We are excited to have this new Innovation Incubator Program bridge the gap between idea and execution, so we can cultivate a business environment that embraces creativity, promotes collaboration, and creates opportunities for everyone.”
Cherese T. Palacios, the program manager, said she is excited for the launch of the program. “As a small business owner myself, I understand the challenges that come with starting and sustaining a business in the CNMI,” Palacios said. “At the Innovation Incubator, our mission is to support and uplift small business entrepreneurs by identifying funding opportunities, educational resources, and fostering a culture of development and growth through networking and collaborative efforts.”
Nadine C. Deleon Guerrero, CNMI SBDC Network director, added, “The program is designed not just to offer support but also to actively invest in our local entrepreneurs’ futures. By offering essential resources, mentorship, and access to funding opportunities, we aim to spark innovation and to help build a stronger, more resilient economy.”
The CNMI Innovation Incubator Program will serve as a central hub for entrepreneurs, offering a range of resources to support business development and expansion. By facilitating access to essential services and funding, the program aims to address the gap in centralized support for business growth in the CNMI and drive economic progress across the islands.
